Biography


Mr. Gerald Harvey Rhode, 72, of 1292 Rehoboth Road, Cottageville, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, August 8, 2012, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Gill Rhode who died in 2006.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Saturday morning, August 11, 2012, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro, with The Reverend Bobby Etheridge and The Reverend Barry Morehead officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Baptist Churchyard, 1671 Rehoboth Road, Cottageville.

Mr. Rhode was born July 22, 1940 in Charleston. He was a son of the late Harvey Brown Rhode and the late Rosa Bridge Rhode. He served his country faithfully in the South Carolina Army National Guard where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He was employed by the Charleston Naval Weapons Stations where he retired as an equipment mechanic in 1994. He was a lifelong member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he was a member of the church's property and grounds committee. Gerald was an avid deer hunter and fisherman being a member of the Rhode Hunting Club. He loved hunting and fishing with his two grandsons and was a big supporter of his grandson in sports, attending many of his varsity football games.

Surviving are: two sons, Gary Rhode and his wife Pam of Cottageville and Chad Rhode and his wife Dee of Cottageville; a brother, Bobby Rhode and his wife Barbara of Cottageville; and an uncle, James G. Rhode and his wife Mollie of Charleston. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Gary Rhode, II and Aaron Rhode, a special friend, Mrs. Rae Varner Adams of Cottageville and by many nieces and nephews.
