George Durden

Mr. George Carlos Durden, 78, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Summerville Community Hospice House.

Born June 22, 1943 in Walterboro, he was the son of the late Clyde Carlos Durden and Elizabeth Rogers Durden and was raised by his grandmother, the late Nether “NeNe” Drawdy Bishop.  George was a 1961 graduate of St. George High School and was an accountant.  He was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro and was attending Grover United Methodist Church.  George was a larger-than-life member of his community that he loved dearly.  He loved trips to the beach, music, dancing, and fashion.  If you knew George, you knew he loved to laugh, loved to make others laugh, and most of all, loved his family.

Surviving are: his husband, Darren Sarine of Walterboro; daughters, Luanne Blanton and her husband Gary of Spartanburg, and Lisa Gerenser and her husband Bob of Fredericksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Carla Wagner and her husband Brian, Joel Carson and his wife Terry, Jake Carson, Coleman Carson and his wife Emily, Kara Gerenser and her husband Brandon Barr, and Kellen Gerenser; great grandchildren, Kaylee Turner, Judah Turner, Silas Wagner, Marley Barr and Magnolia Barr; and step great grandchildren, Page Wagner and Amara Wagner.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Durden.

Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Tuesday morning, February 22, 2022, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Doctor’s Creek Road, Walterboro.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 o’clock.
