Mr. George Ross Craven, 79, of 112 Keenan Avenue, Goose Creek, South Carolina, entered into his state of eternal rest Monday morning, November 24, 2009, at his residence under the care of Odyssey Hospice. He was twice married, first to the late Mrs. Mary Louise Craven whom he was married to for fifty-eight years and secondly to Mrs. Thelma McQueen Craven.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Saturday afternoon, November 28, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Bedon Baptist Churchyard, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.
Mr. Craven was born March 8, 1930, in Colleton County, South Carolina and was a son of the late David Craven and the late Laurie Craven. He was the retired owner of Cravens Landscaping of Goose Creek. He had attended both the Victory Praise Church in Ladson and Heritage Holiness Church in Ridgeville. He was an avid outdoorsman having spent his life working very hard to make the advancements necessary to provide for his family with his hands. He was a member of the Dorchester Quail and Pheasant Shooting Preserve as well as was a member of the Heartbreakers Society. He will be fondly recalled as a loving husband, father, and papa.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: a son, Ross and Rhonda Craven of Statesboro, Georgia; a daughter, Edith Rowe of Saluda; nine grandchildren, Jayne, Mary, Kaitlin, Hunter, James, Tammy, Theresa, Joe and Clentine; three step-sons; three step-daughters; a brother, Eldon Craven of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and a sister, Pat Duncan of Debary, Florida. There are three great grandchildren; as well as nine step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren that also survive.
