George R. Buchanan

Mr. George Robert Buchanan, Sr., known by all as “Buddy”, age 79, of Walterboro, entered into rest Friday morning, January 23, 2026, at the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville.

Born June 16, 1946, in Florence County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Alfred George Buchanan and the late Nellie Mae Pigate Buchanan. He worked for the Savannah River Site and was a very active member of the former Living Word Church in Walterboro. In his retirement he enjoyed writing and devoted himself to community service.

Surviving are: a son, Bob Buchanan and his wife Wendy of Hampton; a daughter, Sheila Buchanan Lowery of Anderson; a sister, Dean Robertson of St. George; six grandchildren, Kassie, Kaylyn, Randa, Bryce, Matt, and Tucker; and one great grandchild, Cooper. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Buchanan.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, January 30, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony.
