Mrs. Geneva Strickland, 90, of Ashton, entered into rest Monday evening, June 8, 2026, at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. She was twice married, first to the late Mr. Richard Wiggins and secondly to the late Mr. Marvin Clyde Strickland.
Born February 7, 1936, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Lyons and the late Agnes Knight Lyons. She was a retired seamstress from Smoaks Manufacturing. The oldest member of Ashton Baptist Church, she dedicated herself to the church’s work having served as pianist for countless years. She centered her life around her loving family and was a devoted homemaker, taking great pride in the care she gave to her family’s home which was over one hundred years old. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach. She will always be remembered as a great southern cook, known for her iconic fruit cakes and Japanese pies. She also had a great love for her cat as well as wild birds and flowers.
Surviving are: three children, Richard “Catfish” Wiggins, Michael Wiggins (Elizabeth), and Myra Jones (Bobby); five grandchildren, Lindsey Hiers, Michelle Dyches, Stephanie Breland, Tracey McDonald, and Jeremy Jones; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, Johnny Wiggins and Dianne Brelane; a grandson, Jonathan Wiggins; and a daughter-in-law, Willie Mae Wiggins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to: Ashton Baptist Church, 5156 Willow Swamp Road, Lodge, South Carolina 29082.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, June 13, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Chase McRae, The Reverend Danny Fogle, and The Reverend Gordon Ackerman officiating. Interment will follow in Rice Patch Christian Churchyard, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton.
