Gene Stanley
HAMPTON- Mr. Gene Stanley, 83, of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, January 30, 2010 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Sandy Run Cemetery.
Mr. Stanley was born September 21, 1926 in Hampton, SC and was a son of the late Geddis Eugene Stanley and Hazle Esther Pulaski Stanley. He was a 1942 graduate of Porter Military School in Charleston and attended the Citadel until 1944, when he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He also attended USC and was on the Football and Tumbling Teams. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he owned many motorcycle shops in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Beaufort, Brunson; his last venture being the Motorcycle Country in Hampton. He was a lifetime member of the State and National Sons of the Confederacy, Rivers Bridge Camp 842, past member of Rivers Bridge Confederate Memorial Association, was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and the National Rifle Association. He was a former Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop in Hampton, was a former Federal Police Officer and was also a former police officer for Hampton County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton, but for the last four years, attended Pine Level Baptist Church in Grays.
Surviving are: his children, Grace Alleman and her husband David of Portland, Oregon, Mary Preece of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kathy Bridges and her husband David of Hampton and Gene Edward Stanley and his wife Kathie of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister, Hazel Anita Mitchell of Lancaster; nephew, stan Mitchell and his wife Annette of Saluda; niece, Lezah McDuffie of Lancaster12 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 7 until 9 pm and Saturday from 11 am until the hour of service at THE BRICE W.
