Gary Dean Cottingham

Mr. Gary Dean Cottingham, 56, of Ridgeville, entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Trident Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 6 pm, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel.

Born August 5, 1958 in Charleston, he was a son of Elsie Leigh Miles Cottingham and the late David Jonathan Cottingham, Sr.  He was an avid gardener and also loved hunting and fishing, especially fishing with his grandchildren.  Gary, known to his grandchildren as “Old Dude”, was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, who will always be remembered for the love and dedication he had for his family.

Surviving are: his wife, Robin Elsey Cottingham of Ridgeville; mother, Elsie Miles Cottingham of Round O; children, Hillary Faithe Cottingham of Beaufort, Caitlin Leigh Cottingham of Charleston and Rebecca Anne Cottingham of Walterboro; step children, Amber Shockley of Ladson, John Shockley, III of Ladson, David Cottingham of Ridgeville and Julia Cottingham of Ridgeville; brother, Patrick Cottingham of Ridgeville; sisters, Janet Millen of Summerville, Sylvia Cottingham of James Island, and Melissa Cottingham-Hilton of Ridgeville; grandchildren, Kyle Stone and Bridgette Stone; step grandchildren, Damon Hilburn, Brianna Hilburn and Kyleigh Shockley; father and mother-in-law, Russell and Norma Elsey of Round O; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Jonathan Cottingham, Jr., and his sister-in-law, Kimberly Elsey Cottingham.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials may be made to: Charleston Cancer Center, 2910 Tricom Street, North Charleston, SC 29406.
