Mr. Garth Wayne Red Thomas, of Ehrhardt, formerly of Fairfax, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 4, 2009 after a short illness at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.
A memorial service will be held 7 pm, Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel.
Mr. Thomas was born March 30, 1929 in Fairfax and was a son of the late Lenwood Rizer Thomas, Sr. and Margaret Viola Darley Thomas. He was employed in the family business, Lo State Tractor Company of Fairfax, and later became a long-distance truck driver from which he retired after 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairfax and served his country in the Army National Guard for several years. He was also a member of the Jaycees; and later in life was also an avid pool player.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Evelyn B. Thomas of Ehrhardt; son, C. Neil Thomas and his fiance, DeAnne Brown of Ehrhardt; daughter, LaWanda T. Cook of Varnville; son, Marion, G. Thomas of Hampton; granddaughter, Elizabeth G. Cook of Varnville; four future step-grandchildren, Michael Brown, Jennifer Brown, Ariana Mador and Chantelle Mador; brothers, Lenwood Rizer L.R. Thomas, Jr. of Fairfax and Jan T. Thomas and his wife Glory of Fairfax; sisters, Hazel D. Loadholt of Fairfax and Latrelle T. Still of Hampton; brother-in-law, John H. Bazzle and his wife Katherine of Washington, NC; sister-in-law, Jane B. Wise and her husband Richard of Ehrhardt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
