The Reverend Bishop Freddie Walter Fields, Jr., 70, of 306 East George Street, Saint George, departed this life to serve the Lord our God in his Heavenly Kingdom this past Tuesday evening, January 20, 2009, at his residence.



Funeral services will be conducted 1 oclock Saturday afternoon, Janaury 24, 2009, from Edisto River House of Refuge at Givhans. Interment will follow in Saint George Church of God Cemetery. The Reverend Dennis Lee Ayers, Jr., Bishop Roy Burroughs, The Reverend Steve Brandenberg, Mr. Mark Drolet, The Bishop Ed Harris, The Bishop Walter Gleaton, and Dr. Glen Creel officiating.



Bishop Fields was born August 7, 1938, in Orangeburg County and was a son of the late Freddie Walter Fields, Sr., and the late Estelle Smoak Fields. He dedicated his life to God and began his service to preach the gospel to others in 1960 and was ordained by The Church of God as a Bishop in 1986. He served pastorates in South Carolina and was the founding pastor of Friendship Church of God in Rock Hill, Edisto Indian Church of God in Givhans, and Saint George Church of God. He truly spent his life devoted to serving God and the Building of His Kingdom. Not only will he be remembered as a true Christian man, he will also be remembered for the love he possessed for his family, as well as his love of gardening and fishing the creeks of the Lowcountry.



Surviving are: his loving wife, Sister Jacqueline Shirey Fields; his children, Lynnita Valladorid and her husband Ramon of Rock Hill, Freddie Michael Fields of Orangeburg, and Phillip Walter Fields and his wife Darlene of Orangeburg; and siblings, Harold Fields of Columbia, Merita Rucker of Saint Matthews, Catherine Bozard of Saint Matthews, Randy Fields of Swansea, Ernest Fields of Elloree, Margaret Ahl of Elloree, Betty Huffman of Neeces, and Sherry Wolfe of Orangeburg. There are eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Fields.
