Ehrhardt, South Carolina

Franklyn Heemann Boardman, Jr., 79, of Erhardt, South Carolina, passed away on August 29, 2021, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Franklyn had several nicknames.  His surviving, adoring sisters, Katharine Guardabassi of Boston, Massachusetts and Susan Piallat of San Francisco, California called him Mickey.  His mighty classmates of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, called him Mac.  His hometown and friends of Ehrhardt, South Carolina called him Mr. Frank. He also loved being called dad, grandad, and great-grandad.

He is survived by his two daughters: Kaci Bendorf of Omaha, Nebraska and Gale Ziegler of Wilmington, Delaware. He was predeceased by his son, Franklyn Heemann Boardman III, who was his beloved "Chip."  He is also survived by his adopted family Rhonda and Elzie Williams and Ariel Smyly of Lodge, South Carolina.  Franklyn was a loyal grandfather to four grandchildren: Chelsea Thorpe, Whitney Bendorf, Chandler Bendorf and Noah Ziegler.  He was a proud great-grandfather to Nataleigh and Vanessa Thorpe.

Frank wore many hats in his long and illustrious life and career.  He was a graduate of The Citadel in 1964.  He was a Captain in the Air Force, serving as Intelligence Linguistic Officer Hanover Germany, using his knowledge of six languages to serve his country. Frank was a country and world traveler, master clock maker, shipwright, EMT, firefighter, gunsmith, and gun shop owner.  He was a landlord, a philanthropist, animal lover, and fierce friend.  Frank heard the call and served the need. Please stop by his gun shop, feed a cat, and share your memory of Frank by adding it to the box of memories the family will provide.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July, 2, 2022 from 1 o'clock - 3 o'clock, at the fire department in Ehrhardt. The family would like to invite anyone who would like to attend the lunch in after the service.
