Mr. William Franklin Rentz, known to all as "Frank", 70, of Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Rentz was born September 3, 1943 in Fairfax and was the son of the late Ray Rentz and Catherine Copeland Rentz. Frank's love for auctioneering started at a young age when he would travel with his father as he did his job as an auctioneer selling livestock, machinery, real estate and automobiles. After receiving his BS in Animal Science from the University of Georgia and a six-year hitch in the US Army, Frank started farming and raising livestock. His life long love for auctioneering led him to become a full time auctioneer in 1968 for livestock sales in Georgia and South Carolina. Shortly thereafter he became involved in automobile auctions.
Frank continued to work throughout the years selling livestock, automobiles, estate sales, charity auctions, SC Peach Auction, SC Watermelon Auction, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Safari International, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Wheeling Sportsman, and numerous school and community events. He received the prestigious award of South Carolina Bid Calling Champion in 1982. He was an instrumental part of the annual Schuetzenfest in Ehrhardt. He was also a proud supporter of Andrew Jackson Academy. Frank was a dedicated and active member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Anyone who knew Frank, knew that he dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a true friend to anyone that he met, never meeting a stranger. He was a charitable giver, who always gave from the heart and never expected anything in return. He had a host of people that he called his friends and always considered them an asset.
Surviving are: his wife of 47 years, Evelyn Gaskins Rentz; sons, Todd Rentz and his wife Denna and Trent Rentz and his wife Karen, all of Ehrhardt; grandchildren, Nelson Rentz, Hannah Rentz, Sydney Rentz, Kaitlyn Rentz, Barrett Rentz and Parker Rentz, all of Ehrhardt; and sisters, Mary Patricia Rentz Botorff and her husband Gary of Fairfax, Virginia and Daisy LeVerne Rentz Kirkland and her husband Gene of Bamberg.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 until 8 at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOMES, EHRHARDT-BAMBERG CHAPEL, 2515 Lowcountry Highway, Ehrhardt, 803.267.1971. Visit the online registry at: www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com.
