Mrs. Frances Ruth Canaday McLean, age 85, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on January 13, 2024, in the comfort of her home after a long illness which she battled bravely.
Born October 27, 1938, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Richard D. Canaday and the late Vivian Perry Canaday of Adams Run. She was devoted to her family and friends and especially her husband of 64 years. She grew up attending Hopewell Baptist Church, attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, and attended the University of South Carolina where she met her loving husband, Bill. She enjoyed reading, playing tennis, going to the beach, snow skiing, hiking, traveling, antiquing and being in the North Carolina mountains. One of her lifelong passions was gardening and tending to her flowers which always flourished under her care. She was a fun-loving grandmother who enjoyed time with her grandchildren and was always up for trips to the playground and ice cream store, reading a book, or putting together a puzzle and playing board games.
Surviving are her husband, William Elliot McLean, MD; three children, Angela M. Wishart (Donald) of Orlando, FL, Susan E. McLean Nangle (Jessy) of Ravenel, and William E. McLean, Jr. (Katherine) of Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren, Jordan, Spencer, Colin and, Amelia Wishart; William, Arabella, John, Milana, and Henry McLean; also her brother, James Floyd Canaday of Adams Run. She was preceded in death by her daughter Elliot Ann “Ellie” McLean and two brothers, George R. and Daniel W. Canaday.

The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. William Elliot McLean are invited to attend her funeral which will be conducted at 2:30 o’clock, Saturday, January 20, 2024, from the graveside at Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run.
