Mr. Everette Ralph Polk, 63, of Rum Gully Road in Islandton, entered into rest surrounded by his loving family Tuesday evening, September 16, 2014, at his reisdence while under the care of Caris Health Care.

Funeral serivces will be conducted 11 o’clock Friday morning, September 19, 2014, from Rice Patch Christian Church, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton. The Reverend Larry Smith and The Reverend George Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Born December 2, 1950, a native and lifelong resident of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Wendell Angus Polk and the late Gertrude Gibson Polk Crosby. Having worked his entire life, Everette was known for his strong work ethic and for never sitting idle. For many years, he was the owner and operator of the family’s store, Polk Grocery, prior to becoming a driver for Connelly Logging and then eventually Bubba’s Used Cars. His greatest work and favorite pastime in life was farming, a passion he held since a young man and a career to which he dedicated a great deal of time. He was a lifelong member of Rice Patch Christian Church in Islandton where he faithfully sang in the Chior, served as a Deacon, and was a member of the Pulpit Search Committee. He was a Master Mason, holding his membership at Hudson Masonic Lodge, No. 373 – Ancient Free Masons in Islandton. Another great acheivement in his lifetime was his work with the Islandton Volunteer Fire Department which he was instumental in its founding as well as served as Fire Chief for twelve years.

Surviving are: his wife of forty-five years, Mrs. Faye Johnson Polk; a son, Wendell Ralph Polk and his wife Kim of Islandton; a daughter, Melinda Polk Murdaugh and her husband Doug of Covington, Georgia; and a sister, Permelia Polk Murdaugh and her husband Buddy of Islandton. There are four grandchildren, Hunter Polk, Tony Polk, Nick Polk, and Autumn Murdaugh; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Iris Kicklighter Johnson of Islandton; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lawhon Polk of Islandton that also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip A. Polk.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Rice Patch Christian Church, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton, South Carolina 29929; or to, Caris Health Care, 1064 Gardner Road, Suite 313, Charleston, South Carolina 29407.
