Biography

Mrs. Eugenia Strickland Fender, known as "Bama" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, 90, of Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Friday, August 5, 2011 at Allendale County Hospital in Fairfax. She was the widow of Manning Rentz Fender, to whom she was married for 45 years.

Funeral services will be held 4 o'clock, Monday, August 8, 2011 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Fender was born October 11, 1920 in the Little Swamp Community, Bamberg County, and was a daughter of the late James Milton "Bub" Strickland and Ada Utsey Carter Strickland. She graduated from Lodge High School. She was employed by the Ehrhardt School Systems in the Dietary Department, worked for Herndon Stockyard and worked for over 25 years at the Ehrhardt Pharmacy. Mrs. Fender was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she served as President of the UMW, was a past UMW Woman of the Year, and served as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Director.

Mrs. Fender enjoyed baking and cooking, doing crossword and find-a-word puzzles, watching the game show network and reading the newspaper. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Surviving are: her daughters, Gloria Duncan and her husband Steve of Ehrhardt and Donna Moore and her friend Eddie Seigler of Ehrhardt; brother, Carlisle Strickland of Charleston; grandchildren, Melissa Moore Kinard (Michael) of Ruffin, Richard Ashley Moore (Kayla) of Aiken, April Denise Duncan of Ehrhardt and Maria Duncan Grubbs (Eddie) of Barnwell; great grandchildren, Casey Elizabeth Kinard, Kelsey Alyssa Kinard, Carley Michal Kinard and Carrigan Grace Moore; numerous special nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caretaker, Dorothy C. Davis. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Fender; 7 sisters, Bessie Strickland, Janie Bunton, Vera Maxey, Kathleen Bazzle, Eva Goolsby, Elise Bennett and Alberta Rentz; and 3 brothers, Carnell Strickland, A.L. Strickland and James Searson Strickland.

The family would like to thank Cheryl Kohlhepp, physical therapist of VNA Bamberg, and the staff of Allendale County Hospital for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Fender.
