Etta Hoats Simmons

Walterboro, South Carolina

Etta Simmons, aged 79, entered into eternal rest after a brief illness on July 30th, 2018. Etta was born January 8, 1939, in Walterboro, SC, the daughter of James McCauley Hoats, Jr and Lou Etta Warren Hoats.

She was a graduate of Walterboro High School and was married to Will “Rodgers” Simmons (deceased)for 37 years.  Etta was a homemaker, and in addition to raising two children, she was very active in the local community. She served on the Arts Council and volunteered at the Colleton Museum and Blood Mobile for many years. In addition, she supported the local Sherriff’s Association.  She was an avid traveler and her love of history led her to visit many areas of the United States and the World.

Etta is survived by her daughters; Janet Chaplin (Marshall) and Cynthia Regan (Daniel); four grandchildren Kimberly Mock (Richard), Clay Chaplin (Kristin), Eric Robbins (Lyndi), and Will Chaplin (Caroline); two great-grandchildren, Hayden Lane Mock, and Marshall Henry Chaplin.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at Bedon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the Colleton Museum.
