Biography

Mrs. Ethel Lorraine Wilburn Mixson, 86, of Walterboro, entered into rest Friday evening, June 27, 2014, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia following and extended illness.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Monday, June 30, 2014, at Victory Baptist Church, 161 Maple Ridge Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at Deep Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Early Branch.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the Victory Baptist Church.

Born September 5, 1927, a native of Hampton County, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. Wilburn and the late Ethel Roberts Wilburn. She had previously worked in health care and will be fondly remembered as a great southern cook, as well as her talent at crochet work and gardening.

Formerly married to the late Pastor Curtis W. Mixson, she is survived by two sons, Sammy Mixson and his wife Carol of Georgetown and Aaron Mixson and his wife Kathy of Walterboro; and brother, Wendell G. Wilburn of Beaufort. There are nine grandchildren; Sonya (Mike) Needham, Jeannette (Ryan) Neal, Stephanie (Arnold Jr.) Bazzle, Jennifer (Scott) Bishop, Becky (Marshall) Morehead, Mark Mixson, Shane Mixson, Brandon Tahquette and Brian Tahquette; eight great grandchildren, Courtney (Chad) Araneo, Austin Mixson, Joshua Varhola, Bryson Bishop, Mackenzie Morehead, Carson Morehead, Nicole (Nicholas) Crosby and Cheyenne Tahquette; as well as three great great grandchildren: Cooper Araneo, Amber Cromer and Coleman Crosby that also survive. She was preceded in death by two sons, David Mixson and Daniel Mixson; and five brothers. Herman Wilburn, Morris Wilburn, Rudolf "Claude" Wilburn, Haskell "Woods" Wilburn and George Wilburn.
