Mrs. Ethel Barnes Baker, 89, of North Charleston entered into her state of eternal rest Monday evening, January 11, 2010, at the Westbury Nursing and Rehab Center in McDonough, Georgia.



Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2010, from Little Swamp United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.



Mrs. Baker was born April 6, 1920, in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Thomas Andrew Barnes and the late Hattie Carter Barnes. She was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church in North Charleston where she was formerly active in many aspects of the churchs work and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be fondly remembered for her love of gardening, canning, and cooking. She was especially known for her delicacy for cooking strawberry and coconut cakes.



Surviving are: a son, John Wesley Chappell and his wife Valerie of Rex, Georgia; a daughter, Chris Mozley and her husband Ron of Columbia; a brother, James Barnes of Lodge; and a sister, Marie Brandt of Columbia. There are three grandchildren, Brian Chappell, Dr. Sharon Mozley-Standrige and her husband Zachary, and Laurie Allison Mozley; a great grandchild, Giovanni Sambenedetto; her beloved poodle, Beau; as well as several nieces and nephews.



Family and friends are invited to call prior to the funeral services Thursday afternoon beginning at 1 oclock at the church.
