Ernestine Canady

Ernestine Nettles Canady, 81, entered into eternal rest on December 14, 2024.

Ernestine was born on September 10, 1943, in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Ernest and JoAnn Nettles.  She was a 1962 graduate of St. Paul’s High School and Farah’s Beauty School of Charleston.  She retired from the Medical University of South Carolina in the Department of Physical Plant.  She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Adams Run where she was active in the Adult Sunday School Class and church choir.  She enjoyed decorating the church for special occasions and attending all social events. Ernestine was a collector of antiques where she spent time with her close friend shopping and collecting special antiques.  She had a special love for her family and church.

She was predeceased by nieces, Teresa Maull Hughes and Allison Nettles Stanley (Mark).

Surviving are her sisters, Myrtle Maull, James Island, Mary Croft, Harmony West Ashley Memory Care and Sarah DuPree, Adams Run; a brother, Johnny (Ruth) Nettles, Walterboro; two nephews, Bernie (Camille) Maull, James Island and Edward (Maggi) Bryant, Ruffin; aunt, Nancy Carmichael, Petersburg, VA; several great nieces, nephews and a host of cousins; and a very close friend, Terry Sires.

Flowers will be accepted or for those that wish the family has requested that memorials may be directed in her memory to Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run, SC 29426.

The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony West Ashley-Memory Care for all the special attention they gave Ernie during her stay and also to Crescent Hospice Care.  “She will be in our hearts forever.”

Funeral Services will be held 2 o’clock, Tuesday afternoon, December 17, 2024, at Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run.  The Reverend Gordon Ackerman officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1 o’clock until the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
