Mr. Emory Lyons, 73, of 56 Hallie Lane, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Thursday morning, December 17, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Saturday afternoon, December 19, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro.
Mr. Lyons was born February 15, 1936, in Colleton County and was a son of the late Maddie Madison Lyons and the late Bessie Bunton Lyons. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy and was a member of Jones Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church in Walterboro. He was a mechanic by trade and will be forever remembered for his excellent skill at his trade. For 19 years he worked for Asten Hill in Walterboro as a Loom Mechanic and had also worked as a mechanic for Greenwood Mills and John C. Smith Sr. Logging of Walterboro where he retired from. Emory loved children and played an influential role in many young peoples lives, becoming to many as their father figure. He also shared an avid love of the outdoors.
Surviving are: his wife of twenty-eight years, Mrs. Margie Ackerman Lyons, six sons, Greg Lyons (P.J.) of Poplar Springs, Tennessee, Dewayne Lyons (Mary Lou) of Holly Hill, Florida, Emory Dewey Lyons (Lori) of Walterboro, Andy Lyons of Walterboro, Greg Nixon of Walterboro, Wayne Eaves of Walterboro, and Pete Norris of Rowesville; five daughters, Lora Nettles (Terry) of Ruffin, Loretta Lynn Lyons of Hepsabah, Georgia, Linda Nixon of Walterboro, Rose Mary Henry (Phillip) of Rowesville, and Patricia Caudillo of Walterboro; one brother, Edward Lyons of Walterboro; and a sister, Virginia Jones of Darlington. There are thirty-one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Brady Lyons.
