Petty Officer Second Class Elmer Louis Johnson, United States Navy (Ret.), age 80, entered into rest Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016, at his home in Walterboro while surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services with full military honors will be conducted 12 noon Tuesday afternoon, November22, 2016, from the graveside at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Walterboro. The Reverend Donna Guerry Mullis and The Reverend Philip McNeal officiating.
Born December 13, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Lester Deward Johnson and the late Mary Elizabeth Dutton Johnson Scarborough. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force prior to enlisting in the United States Navy where he retired after twenty-two years of service. He was a retired Pipefitter from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. A former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Round O, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro. He dearly loved his church and will always be remembered as a good Christian man who centered his life around the church and his family.
Surviving are: his wife of twenty-seven years, Mrs. Eloise Lemm Johnson; three children, Deloris Vaughan and her husband Troy, Richard Kline and his wife Lorra, and Kenneth Kline and his wife Michelle all of Summerville; two sisters, Myrtice Johnson Guerry Craven of West Ashely and Mary Louise Scarborough Shuhart and her husband Thomas of Greer; twelve grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by a dear friend, John Carr. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Pamela Jean Marie Kline.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: First Baptist Church of Walterboro, 124 South Memorial Avenue, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
