Mr. Ellis Crawford Harvey, 87, of Hampton, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 at his special friends’, Ruth Heape, home after an extended illness. Born August 20, 1927, in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Mack Harvey and Annie Mae Blackwood Harvey.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Thursday, November 20, 2014 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery.

Ellis enlisted in the United States Army in 1945-1946 and was stationed in occupied Japan. He was employed at Westinghouse for 42 years and retired as a Quality control Manager. He was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for numerous years. He enjoyed gardening, caring for birds, attending church discussing the word of God, and loved to hear Billy Graham’s sermons.

Surviving are: his daughters, Kaye (Robert) Elliott of Grays and Debra (Larry) Hailey of North Charleston; grandson, John (Robin) Barr of Estill; and his special friend, Ruth Heape of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Elizabeth Pope Harvey; a brother, Jimmy Rogers; and a sister, Wilma Harvey.
