Ellen Crosby

Mrs. Ellen Louise Crosby, 85, of Walterboro, entered into rest Friday morning, August 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.  She was the devoted wife of the late Mr. Eugene Hugh Crosby, Sr.

Born March 17, 1933, in Bluffton, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Alex Hampton and the late Myrtle Crosby Brown and her husband James.  She was a retired seamstress from Walterboro Dress Plant and had also retired from Carolina Textile Recycling. She was a longtime member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Walterboro.  At her church, she was faithful in many aspects of the church’s ministry, having been a member of the Choir and Women’s Missionary Union, and assisted with the Food Pantry.  She also had attended North Walterboro Baptist Church.

Surviving are: a son, Eugene Hugh Crosby, Jr. and his wife Audrey Bailey Crosby of Walterboro; a daughter, Cathy Crosby Benton and her husband Mike Benton of Walterboro; a brother, David Crosby of Bluffton; and a sister, Jo Barber of Walterboro.  There are two grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Sarah Benton of Raleigh, North Carolina and Dr. Stewart M. Benton, Jr. and his fiancé Grace Mikan of York, Pennsylvania.   She is also survived by a large host of nieces and nephews as well as her extended family to include Brad and Lisa Grossman and their children Alex and Kasey.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Henrietta Brammer and Gladys Padgett; and two brothers, James Crosby and Paul Crosby.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, August 4, 2018,  from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Ralph Warren and The Reverend James W. Williams, Jr.  officiating.  Entombment will follow in Glendale Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
