Elizabeth S. Zahler, affectionately called “Lib” by some of her loved ones, was healed as she entered her heavenly home on Saturday morning, March 25, 2023, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter Missie Bryant in Martinsville, Indiana. Elizabeth was born on February 20, 1945, in Jasper County, South Carolina, to Edgar and Rosa Nell Stanley. On September 17, 1966, she married the love of her life, Marvin Wesley Zahler, and she was a devoted wife, mother, and “Granny.”
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her devoted husband of thirty-seven years, Marvin Wesley Zahler; her parents, Edgar Thelma and Rosa Nell Mixson Stanley; her brothers, Vincent Stanley, Andrew Stanley, Ben Stanley, and Edgar Stanley; her sisters, Helen Dennis, Louise Smith, and Betty Mixson; and many aunts and uncles whom she adored.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Missie and Stefan Bryant of Martinsville, Indiana, Lynn and Cameron Cloud of Dunn, North Carolina, and Sherry and Mark Falls of Newark, Ohio; her son Dr. Wesley Zahler of San Diego, California; her grandchildren, Will and Emily Cloud, Marc Bryant, Charis Falls, Anna Bryant, Dylan Cloud, Kimbrell Falls, and Caroline Falls; her sister Janie Heape of Greer, South Carolina; her brother and sister-in-law Olin and Cindy Stanley of Bradley, South Carolina; her sister-in-law Linda Stanley of Bluffton, South Carolina; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Louise and Kenny Nichols of Early Branch, South Carolina; her dear friends Brenda Walker and daughter Angie; and many nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Aunt Lib.”
Elizabeth graduated from Grays High School in 1963 and attended one year of Christian college where she trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She attended church regularly and served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, deacon’s wife, and hospitality coordinator. She also thoroughly enjoyed visiting other churches’ revival services. Her most recent membership was at Tri-City Baptist Church in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Her earliest jobs included driving a school bus, working at Westinghouse and Holiday Wear, and assisting a family practice doctor. Her most recent job was a secretarial position in a Christian radio station at a Christian college for seventeen years. During that time, she was also campus mom to several college students.
She loved reading her Bible, praying for others, and telling people about Jesus. Serving others was her life. She cared for both her mom and her husband at home before they went to heaven. She enjoyed traveling to visit her relatives in South Carolina and to visit her children and grandchildren in various states, and she loved to hear her children and grandchildren play instruments and sing. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping and finding incredible bargains to share with her family and friends. Sewing, reading, cooking, baking, and cake decorating were some of her favorite hobbies. She loved flowers and plants, the color blue, Chick-fil-a, and talking on the phone. She will be forever remembered for her sweet, quiet voice and her Christmas goodies.
