Ms. Martha Elizabeth Woods, affectionately known to everyone as Peg, 91, of Pine Street, Varnville, entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Hampton Cemetery.
Born May 25, 1923 in Cummings, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William Lee Woods and Mamie Heape Woods. She worked for South Carolina Electric and Gas in Hampton, having retired after 36 years of service. After her retirement she began volunteering her time in many capacities, including the Hampton County Museum and the Hampton Regional Medical Center. Ms. Peg was a member of The First Baptist Church of Hampton, where she was a member of the WMU; and was also an active member of the Lily Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Hampton.
Surviving are: her nephews, William M. Zeigler and his wife Cynthia of Varnville and W. Allen Woods and his wife Becky of Edisto Island; special friends, Spencer and Anne Brotherson of Lodge; cousins, Gilbert and Mary Ann Heape of Cummings; and a great great niece, Ella Woods. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilfred H. Woods; a sister, Annie Bell Zeigler; and a great nephew, Jason Allen Woods.
