Mrs. Ella Elizabeth Kinsey Maxey Way, age 93, of Charleston, entered into rest on Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014 at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014, at Saint Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Avenue, Charleston. The Reverend Scarlett Hester officiating. Interment will follow that afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Kinsey Cemetery, Round O.
Born January 21, 1921, she was the eighth child of the late Ella Blanche Jaques of Cottageville and James Benjamin Kinsey of Williams. They raised their children at Round O, SC. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Master Sergeant Everette G. Maxey of Smoaks, SC and her second husband, James Richard Way of Walterboro. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings: John Kinsey (Ann), Ansel Kinsey (Sandra) Player Kinsey (Mary), Frank Kinsey (Sara), Lenore Rhode (Clyde), Uldean Smoak (Lynwood) and Vivian McMillan (Henry).
Mrs. Way joined St. Mark United Methodist Church in Charleston in 1963 and has been an active member for many years until her illness prevented her from doing so any longer. She was one of the founders of the "Goodness Gracious Band" at St. Mark, a Sunday School Teacher of the Caring and Sharing Sunday School Group and also a lay pastor for the Outreach Ministry of St. Mark. Mrs. Way, an accomplished pianist, often played for the congregation of St. Mark.
Elizabeth was a vibrant, beautiful, and talented woman. All who knew and loved her, will dearly miss her vitality and zest for life, church and family.
She was very proud to be the head of a 5 generation living family. She had two daughters, Gloria Maxey Williams (Donald) of Moncks Corner, and Joy Ann Maxey of Charleston. She adopted her first two grandchildren, Elizabeth Lea Beach Meyer (Norman) of Charleston and R. Everette Beach (Dwan) of Manning. There are three granddaughters, Joy Denise Phillips (Chris) of Charleston, Tiffanie Rogers (Randy) of Apex, NC, and Amber Elizabeth Fulford of Charleston; three great granddaughters, Kirstee Criswell (Evan) of Charleston, Brittanee Phillips of Hartsville, and Sierra Phillips of Charleston; a great great grandson, Jaxson Criswell of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews that also survive. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jackie L. Evans, Jr of Atlanta, GA.
