Mrs. Elizabeth Dempsey Hadwin, 78, entered into rest Monday evening, September 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Brunson under the care of Agape Hospice. She was the wife of the late Otis Herbert Hadwin, Sr., to whom she was married 58 years.
Born September 22, 1945, in Hampton, she was a daughter of the late James Earl Dempsey and Sarah Frances Heape Dempsey. She was a retired secretary for the South Carolina Highway Department Transportation Division. She was a member of Open Arms Fellowship. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing with her sisters. She enjoyed working with her flowers and loved cooking. She loved cooking for her family every Sunday until she wasn’t able to. She dearly loved her work family and her church family who affectionately called her “Queen Elizabeth”, but most of all, she adored her children, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who called her “Nana”.
Surviving are: her two children, Otis Herbert “Odie” Hadwin, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Brunson and Melanie Elizabeth Hadwin Crews and her husband Windell of Hampton; four grandchildren, Dakota Hadwin and his wife Tiffany, Dalton Hadwin and his wife Sydni, Mallory Crews Hazel and her husband Michael, and Houston Crews; great grandchildren, Crews Elizabeth Hazel and Liam Wilson Hadwin; sisters, Helen Tuten of Varnville; Margaret Mathis and her husband I.W. of Hampton, and Betty Terry and her husband Bert of Hampton; brother, Willie Dempsey and his wife Cathy of Early Branch; sister-in-law, Reba Hadwin Robertson and her husband Otis Lee Robertson of Summerville; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Leah Hadwin Tuten; and a brother-in-law, Grover Hadwin.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, September 5, 2024, at Open Arms Fellowship, 402 Hoover Street North, Hampton. The Reverend James Porter and The Reverend R. P. Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Brunson.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon beginning at 1 o’clock until the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
