Mrs. Elizabeth Rentz Ferguson, 79, of Cottageville, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, February 16, 2013, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Mr. Jesse Calvin Ferguson who died in 2006.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Tuesday morning, February 19, 2013, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Meeting House Cemetery, Meeting House Lane, Cottageville.
Born January 31, 1934, a native of Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Aaron Rentz and the late Alma Belger Rentz. She was the retired owner and operator of Fergusons Grocery in Cottageville, which that along with being a second mother to many made her a well known and loved icon in the Cottageville community. She was a member of the Edisto Pentecostal Holiness Church and was also a member of Ridgeville Chapter No. 290, Order of the Eastern Star. She also for many years was a dealer for Sarah Coventry Jewelry.
Surviving are: two daughters, Pamela Jane Ferguson of Cottageville and Loretta Ferguson Dandridge (Ricky Mixon) of Cottageville; a son, Matthew Ferguson of Cottageville; and three sisters, Ida Sheppard of Hanahan, Louvenia Craven of Walterboro, and Peggy Ferguson of Nopomo, California. There are four grandchildren, Dana, Aaron, Kendal and Stephanie as well as three great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by two children, Deborah Ferguson Wadford and Jesse Leonard Ferguson; and a grandchild, Henry Wadford.
