Elaine Kinard

Mrs. Elaine Hiers Kinard, 88, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday evening, March 3, 2022, at her residence.  She was the wife of the late Ralph Rendle Kinard, Sr.

Born December 11, 1933 in Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Jervey Hiers and Lorita Ulmer Hiers.  She was a retired Avon representative.  She was a faithful and devoted member of Evergreen Christian Church, where she was an assistant Sunday School teacher and former Deaconess.  Mrs. Elaine was a great Southern cook, and you always knew there was something to eat at Mama’s.  She was especially known for the way she cooked all types of wildlife.  One of the things she enjoyed during her lifetime was when she, along with her sister and a group of young women known as The Hymn Girls used to sing on our local radio station, WALD, on Saturday morning.  Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly.  If you knew Mrs. Elaine, you were family to her.

Surviving are: her son, Ralph Rendle “Rendy” Kinard, Jr. of Walterboro; son-in-law, James Pellum of Walterboro; grandchildren, LaChrisa Lynn Ginn, Barry Kinard and his wife Joy, and Travis Corey Crozier and his wife Jenna; great grandchildren, Austin and his wife Jade, Calen, Jordan and his wife Emily, Riley and his wife Morgan, Kendra, Corey and Sophia; great great grandchildren, Kyla, Maverick, and Gatlin; brother-in-law who made sure she was taken care of after his brothers’ death, Clyde Kinard and his wife JoAnn; her caregiver that she loved as her own, Tammy; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded death by her daughter, Margie Elaine Pellum; her sister, Lavinia Catterton; and an infant brother, Johnny Hiers.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2022, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Bells Highway, Walterboro.
