Biography

Mr. Edward Martin Walicki, 92, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2014, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was the loving and devoted husband of sixty-five years to the late Mrs. Margaret Sterk Walicki.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2014, from Green Pond United Methodist Church, Highway 61, Smoaks. Interment with military honors will follow in the churchyard.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony Saturday beginning at 12 noon in the church sanctuary.

Born September 24, 1921, a native of Manhattan, New York, he made the Lowcountry of South Carolina his home in 1981. A son of the late Valentine Walicki and the late Kathryn Smotrycz Walicki, he served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II having assignments in Rhineland and Central Europe and being awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and three Bronze Stars. He was a retired foreman from Pepsico in Westbury, New York. He was a member of Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Walterboro and also was a life member of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge - South Carolina Chapter VII.

Surviving are: a son, Robert Walicki of Walterboro; two daughters, Elizabeth Shataka and her husband Steven of Linderhurst, New York and Dorothy Crosby and her husband Stanley of Smoaks; and a brother, Joseph Walicki of Ocala, Florida. There are four grandchildren and eight grandchildren that also survive as well as six cats. He was preceded in death by a grandson; a great grandson; and two sisters, Blanche Walicki and Julia Champion.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Green Pond United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, care of Mr. Ray Thomas, 3568 Sunrise Road, Smoaks, South Carolina 29481.
