Edward Stivender

Mr. Edward McLaurin Stivender, affectionately known by all as Mack, age 76, of 2642 Bama Road, Cottageville, entered into eternal rest Thursday evening, July 9, 2009, at Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2 oclock Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Bobby Ethridge officiating. Interment will follow in Cottageville Cemetery, Jacksonboro Road, Cottageville.



Mr. Stivender was born July 31, 1932, in Cottageville and was a son of the late Parnell Stivender and the late Georgie Willis Stivender. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a retired employee of Charleston Naval Shipyard where he worked for twenty years holding various positions and retiring as a Marine Machinist. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Cottageville and will be remembered for the love he possessed for his family, as well as fishing the local creeks of Colleton County, his horses and dogs.



Surviving are: his wife of fifty-five years, Mrs. Jon Ann Reeves Stivender; and three children, Susan Purvis and her husband Reid of Cottageville, Larry Stivender and his wife Sherry of Cottageville, and Robbin Byrd and her husband Carl of Saint George. There are nine grandchildren, Brandon Purvis, Whitney Purvis Miles, Krystal Stivender, Trey Stivender, Hunter Hall, Taylor Hall, Krista Byrd, Jacob Byrd, and Lindsey Creech that also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willis Stivender.
