Mr. Edward Navarrete, Jr. of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Mechanicsville, Maryland. He was the husband of the late Mary Agnes Cook Navarrete.
Born October 20, 1928, in Harlingen, Texas, he was the son of the late Edwardo Navarrete and San Juanita Garcia Navarrete. He proudly served his country faithfully and honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and great-great grandfather with a Big heart, who helped his late wife (Mary Agnes) run the "Just Say No Club" on James Island. He was known for his love of animals and involvement in sports with his children as their coach who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: his children, Raul Navarrete of Folly Beach, South Carolina; Glenda Lane of Mechanicsville, Maryland, and Mary Ellen Tortorici of Port Charlotte, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: Gladys Lara, Enrique (Henry), Aurora Lynde, Olivia Heppner, Adela Gwin, Lala Sanders, Oralia Aahus, Eduardo Navarrete, Alicia Tillery, and Rodolfo Navarrete.
He was preceded in death by sons, Joe Navarrete and Billy Merritt; his daughters, Joe Ann Navarrete and Cathy Lamb; his brothers, Luis C. Navarrete, Job Navarrete, and Daniel Navarrete; and his sisters, Gerarda Negron, Ruth Castillo, and Magdalena Narraez.
A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 o’clock, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton, South Carolina.
