Edward Hughes

Mr. Edward Earl Hughes, affectionately known by many as “Buzz”, age 83, entered into rest Friday, September 2, 2016, at his home in the Forest Hills Subdivision of Walterboro.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The Reverend Gerald Mabry officiating.  A family interment service will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery.

Born May 10, 1933 in Conway, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Joseph W. Hughes and the late Dawn Reddick Hughes.   He served our country faithfully in the United States Air Force having been stationed in France.  He was employed by Thomas and Howard and Company for many years before beginning a career with Pan American Airlines from which he retired.  He was of the Southern Baptist faith.   An outdoorsman, Mr. Hughes, was an avid fisherman, boating enthusiast, and dearly loved golf.

He is survived by a loving host of nieces and nephews, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Genevieve Hull and Margaret Ann Williams; and two brothers, Joe W. Hughes and Robert Jacob Hughes.

The family requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to:  St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place
Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
