Charles Edward Crews, 54, son of Marjorie Murdaugh Crews and the late Billy Crews, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by his beloved family after a valiant battle with cancer.
A true gentleman with an immense sense of humor and loyalty, Edward touched the lives of a multitude of people. His mischievous spirit and fluency in smack talking made for tons of laughs and an abundance of good times. He could be silly with the best of them and definitely knew how to have fun. He was an adventurous jokester who never met a stranger and was the life of every party.
Edward was a avid outdoorsman and a sports enthusiast. He was a mud-loving, softball playing, ranger riding, sandbar sitting, hunting, fishing, Braves baseball watching, Carolina Gamecock football fanatic! He was a “tiny bit” competitive and loved to play a good game of cards. A hardworking, knowledgeable man who knew so many things. He may have specialized in HVAC and refrigeration, but he could do anything and fix nearly everything. He was a jack of all trades. If he couldn’t fix it – it couldn’t be fixed!
Ed retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons after working at FCI Estill for 25 years. While there he forged friendships that will never be forgotten.
Edward’s journey on this earth was marked by integrity and wisdom and he leaves a legacy of love behind.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving, devoted wife, Cindy Ginn Crews; his daughter, Valorie (Drayton) Kinard; his son; Colton (Kaley) Crews; his bonus children, Kaylie (Axl) Cook, Devan (Arianna Malphrus), J.T. Glick, and Dawson Glick; ten grandchildren that he truly adored, Colton Crews, Cooper Crews, Knox Crews, Charlee Kinard, Carter Kinard, Dekklan Cook, Zeplyn Cook, Taiverin Cook, Maddie Malphrus, and Kynlee Malphrus; his mother, Marjorie Crews; his siblings, Debra (Mike) Freeman, Patty (Albert) Kollar, and Bryan Crews; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He also leaves behind his chosen brothers, James “Stump” Mixson and Scott Terry; his devoted dog Lucky; and his one and only cat, Nala.
