Edgar Mendel Driggers

Mr. Edgar Mendel Driggers, 86, of Cottageville Highway, Round O, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 20, 2011.

Mr. Driggers was born November 18, 1924 in Round O and was a son of the late Edgar Eugene Driggers and Ruby Hill Driggers. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Civil Service, having worked at the Charleston Air Force Base. He was an active, lifetime member of Bedon Baptist Church, serving as Deacon, Trustee, Treasurer and Grounds Keeper; and a life member of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge in Round O.

Mr. Mendel will always be remembered by his family and friends as a "hard-working, outgoing, never met a stranger" person. He loved the Lord, his family, and especially his grandchildren and his 12 great grandchildren. He also loved farming, his horses, raising his cows and especially the annual fishing trips with his sons.

Surviving are: his wife of 64 years, Sue Montjoy Driggers of Round O; children, James M. "Jim" Driggers and his wife Joan, Miriam D. Humphries and her husband Thomas and Philip D. Driggers and his wife Marie, all of Round O; brother, Alton Driggers of Round O; sister-in-law, Juanita Cook Driggers of North Charleston; grandchildren, Tammy Varn, Kimberly McClellan, Lynn Beach, Jessica Humphries, Benjamin Humphries and Phil Driggers; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, A. Jason Driggers; and a brother, Edgar Lloyd Driggers.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro. Interment with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.
