Mr. Eddie Harden Dopson, 97, of 198 Dopson Road, Islandton, entered into his state of eternal rest Monday evening, January 4, 2010, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Verta Ruth Dopson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2010, from Adnah United Methodist Church, Adnah Church Road, Islandton, with The Reverend David Cox officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites conferred by Hudson Masonic Lodge will follow in the churchyard.
Mr. Dopson was born March 6, 1912, in Colleton County and was son of the late Joe Murdaugh Dopson and the late Alice Buchanan Dopson. He was a retired sheet metal worker from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Adnah United Methodist Church, where he was formerly active in many aspects of the churchs work; and was a member of Hudson Masonic Lodge No. 373, Ancient Free Masons in Islandton. For many years, he was a Colleton County Farmer, and he along with his late wife, owned and operated Dopsons Corner Store on the outskirts of Islandton bordering the Hampton County line, an occupation he faithfully dedicated himself to for many years following his retirement.
Surviving are: a son, Eddie R. Bobby Dopson and his wife Fredia of Islandton; and two daughters, Carolyn Dopson Thompson and her husband Walter of Islandton and Judy Dopson Moore and her husband Wayne of Islandton. There are seven grandchildren as well as a numerous number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren that also survive.
