A memorial service for Earnest H. Cornett, Sr. will be held 11 oclock Saturday morning, January 10, 2009, at the Truth Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1400 W. Evans Street, Florence, SC. He passed away Sunday morning, January 4, 2009. Earnie was born in New Edinburg, Arkansas on August 12, 1928.
He proudly served the US Navy for 22 years during the Korean War & two tours in Vietnam. He earned a Bronze star for heroic achievement & the Navy Achievement medal for meritorious service.
While in the service he met Johnnie Mae Anderson, whom he wed 6 weeks later. They were married for 33 years until her death in 1987. He is survived by their children & spouses: Penny Cornett (Roger Stevens), Glenn Cornett (Teresa), Pete Cornett (Cher), & Patty Porter, their grandchildren Stacey & Whitney Cornett, Allison (John) Herring, Alan, Alyssa, & Amanda Stevens, & Jena Cornett and great- grandchild Abigail Herring. He is also survived by his sister Opal Dedman, his wife Betty Cornett & his beloved dog Casey.
