Mrs. Dorothy Lee Bowers, 79, of 3017 Peniel Road, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Saturday evening, February 19, 2011, at the Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Tuesday morning, February 22, 2011, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro, with The Reverend Jack Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in Great Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Great Swamp Road, Walterboro.
Mrs. Bowers was born October 4, 1931, in Islandton, and was a daughter of the late Leroy Herndon and the late Elizabeth Priester Herndon. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Walterboro where she and her husband were active in their church, and she was a former Sunday School teacher and a former member of the Adult Choir. A beautiful person inside and out, she will be remembered for the love she possessed for her family and others as well as the talent she had for being a great Southern cook.
Surviving are: her husband of sixty-two years, Mr. Woodrow Wilson Bowers; a daughter, Janice Ann Bowers of Walterboro; a son, Donnie Bowers of Islandton; two sisters, Ruth Elizabeth Dohler of Perry, Georgia and Maebelle Herndon of Clinton; and a brother, Herbert Herndon of Islandton. There are three grandchildren, Josh Bowers, Nick Crosby and his wife Nicole, and Brittany Martin all of Walterboro; and three great grandchildren, Sharon Bowers, Coleman Crosby, and Amber Cromer.
