Biography

Mrs. Dorothy Dempsy Benton, 79, of Sniders, entered into her eternal rest Tuesday morning, May 31, 2011, at her daughter's residence in Sandy Springs Subdivision of Walterboro surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Agape Hospice. She was the wife of the late Mr. Milton C. Benton.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2011 from Shiloh Baptist Church, 10565 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin, with The Reverend Ned Frownfelter and The Reverend Ricky Crosby officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Smoak Cemetery, Cane Branch Road, Ruffin.

Mrs. Benton was born January 4, 1932, in Hampton County, South Carolina, and was a daughter of the late John Henry "Harry" Dempsey and the late Minnie Cartrett Dempsey. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, and at her church, she was a former Sunday School Teacher assistant, was also a former Choir Mistress, as well as being active in many aspects of the church's work and participating in any area she could to serve the Lord.

Surviving are: a son, Harry Milton Benton and his wife Betty C. Benton of Ruffin; three daughters, Janice D. Vinczi and her husband Johnny D. Vinczi of Ruffin, Kathy B. Stratton and her husband Weston "Nick" Stratton of Walterboro, and Karen B. Amberson of Ruffin; and two sisters, Beatrice McClure of Saint George and Ruby Buehner of Beaufort. There are nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by her beloved friend, Mr. W.J. Nettles.
