Doris Bishop Floyd

Mrs. Doris Bishop Floyd, age 102, entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family following a life of love and service at her home in Yemassee on New Years Day, Friday, January 1, 2021.  She was the loving wife of the late Mr. Allen L. “Al” Floyd.

Born April 4, 1918 at the family home near Sniders, she was a daughter of the late George W. Bishop and the late Hettie Varn Bishop.   In November of 1940, she along with her late husband purchased what is now known as the iconic Floyd’s Grocery near Yemassee.     She became known by all of the locals and she knew them all as well, one thing she prided herself on.  She was raised at Shiloh Baptist Church near Sniders, the family church and was a member of Yemassee Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Live 5 News Hall of Fame.  She enjoyed the quiet rural life, spending quiet time in her chair next the furnace, and vegetable gardening.

Surviving are: her grandson, Jamie Allen Floyd of Walterboro; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Crosby Floyd of Walterboro; a niece, Harriott Cleland Henderson of Walterboro; and a longtime family friend, Norman Washington.   She was preceded in death by her only son, Jimmie Allen Floyd in 2003; as well as her two sisters, Elise Bishop Floyd and Georgie Ann Bishop Cleland.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Shiloh Baptist Church, 10565 Lowcountry Hwy, Ruffin, South Carolina 29475.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, January 4, 2021, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.  The Reverend Heyward Evans officiating.
