RUFFIN " Mrs. Donie Taylor Smith, 90, of 1145 Getha Road, Ruffin, died Sunday morning, June 28, 2009, at the Heritage Health Care in Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Mr. Getha Eugene Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2009, from Carters Ford Baptist Church, 8774 Lodge Highway, Lodge. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born July 3, 1918, in the Padgetts Community of Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Cary A. Taylor and the late Lula Strickland Taylor. She was a retired supervisor from the cafeteria of Bells Elementary School and was a longtime member of Carters Ford Baptist Church. At her church, she was a former member of the Jane Lou Sunday School Class, the Womens Missionary Union, and the Adult Choir, as well as was the secretary for her Sunday School Class. She will be remembered for her talent of sewing and for being a creative seamstress.
Surviving are: two daughters, Jean Strickland and her husband Bud of Ruffin and Sharon Sineath and her husband Arnold of Islandton; four grandchildren, Dave Strickland, Maryanne Phillips, Robbie Sineath, Jr., and Adoria Sineath; and five great grandchildren to include a special great granddaughter, Olivia Phillips.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so desire, memorials may be made in her memory to: Carters Ford Baptist Church, for use with the Cemetery Fund, 8774 Lodge Highway, Lodge, SC 29082.
