Dock Pennington Tant passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her daughter's home surronded by family. Dock was only a few weeks away fron her 90th birthday, she had endured a 6-month struggle with colon cancer.
Dock was born January 22, 1922 in the front bedroom at Long Brow Plantation in Wiggins, South Carolina. She later lived on Paul Dalton Plantation where her father served as a caretaker of the property. Dock always spoke affectionately of her time growing up on the Combahee River.
She married Richard Tant in 1949 and the couple settled in Charleston, and later Ladson, SC. Together they raised 5 children, Tommy, Leonard, Kathy, Wayne and Shirley. Her husband Richard was a well known Horse Breeder in the southeast and the couple enjoyed sharing their love of horses with their children. The family spent many weekends traveling to Horse Shows and Auctions.
Dock was an avid reader, and often read several books at the same time. If you ever wondered what to get her as a gift, a book was always the right idea. She enjoyed many hours working in her yard, and was especially proud of her Roses. She was also a huge fan of NASCAR and especially loved Jeff Gordon.
Dock is pre-deceased by her parents, James Mood Pennington, II and Maggie Bunton Pennington, her husband Richard Tant, her younger brother James (Jim) Pennington, III, and her son Richard Wayne Tant.
Dock is survived by her daughters, Kathy Tant Brroks (Sonny) and Shirley Tant Livingston (Doug, all of Summerville; her stepsons, Tommy Tant of Summerville and Leonard Tant (Jeynean) of Walterboro; her daughter-in-law, Sheila Martin Tant of Summerville; and her sister-in-law, Mary Beth Pennington of Columbia.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brooke Livingston (Ashley) of San Francisco, CA, Martin Richard (Richie) Tant of Ladson, Austin Livingston of Summerville, and Sherry Dial (David) of Summerville; as well as her great grandchildren, Madison and Konnor McDowell of Summerville.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January, 7, 2012 from 12 until 2 pm at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro. A private burial will follow.
