Kenneth Dean Strickland, 72, of Ruffin, passed away after a battle with cancer Wednesday evening, August 7, 2024, at Pruitt Healthcare in Walterboro, surrounded by his children. Born May 31, 1952, he was a son of the late Johnny Durant Strickland and Marlene Smyly Strickland.
Dean grew up in Ruffin, South Carolina, where he graduated from Bells High School. He excelled in several sports including football and baseball. He loved to hunt, fish, and most of all enjoyed taking rides on his ranger with Dixie. He served his country faithfully in the South Carolina Army National Guard and was also a proud member of Bells Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are: his children, Brandi Strickland, Keith Strickland, and Bradley Strickland, all of Ruffin, and Ashley Strickland; four grandchildren, Taylor Jones and her husband Austin, Brad Strickland, Elizabeth Strickland, and Olivia Strickland; brother, Cary Strickland and his wife Debbie of Cottageville; sister, Ann Hawkins and her husband Mark of Ruffin; and his best friend, Dixie, his German Shorthair Pointer. He was preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Chester and Shadow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to help recipients of heart transplants. Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, August 12, 2024, at Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will be held privately at Smyly Cemetery.
