Danny L. Bishop

d. January 16, 2026

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mr. Danny L. Bishop, age 69, entered into rest Friday evening, January 16, 2026, at his home in Walterboro surrounded by the love of the family and friends he adored following a long and courageous illness.

Born January 3, 1957, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Ernest “Red” Bishop and the late Mavis Lillian Jennings Bishop. Shortly after his graduation from Walterboro High School, Class of 1975, he began working in the operations division of the Canadys Power Plant of South Carolina Electric and Gas. Danny’s family name was synonymous with logging. He was the second generation in the Lowcountry's iconic Bishop Logging. Then in 1998, he became the founding owner of R and D Timber Company.

Danny was a faithful member of Grace Advent Christian Church in Walterboro, where he was active in many aspects of the church’s work, always present and willing to assist in anyway possible including his service as a Deacon and official Board member. He was a member of the Forestry Association as well as the South Carolina Timber Producers Association. Danny will forever be remembered for his strong work ethic and Christian faith. He, for countless young men, was the bedrock of their beginning in the logging, assisting them in starting their own companies and providing them with knowledge and experience. As a master fabricator who could fix anything, he was particularly knowledgeable in hydraulics and possessed numerous innovative ideas. Danny knew that his talents and abilities were gifts from God and he was always careful to use them to help others. He kept his Bible on the dashboard of his truck and always referred to that as his sword. He started each workday in prayer and witnessed to others about his faith. His famous quote, “If God had enough patience for me, he has enough for you” was the anthem he lived by. He will always be remembered for his witty and mischievous character and as a gun enthusiast and avid fisherman.

Surviving are: his wife of forty-six years, Mrs. Gayle Carroll Bishop; two children, Ryan Bishop (Abby) of Bluffton and Cindi Bishop of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Gracie, Braydon, Blake, Tinley, and Cullen; and a sister, Bonnie Bishop Tracy (Wayne) of Walterboro.
