Constance May Bradley Leach died peacefully at her home in Walterboro, SC on August 22, 2010 after a three year battle with cancer. She was born May 28, 1940 in Connecticut, daughter of the late LeRoy and Claribel Bradley of Canton, CT and is a direct descendant of John Hart, a founding father of Hartford, CT and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Kenneth R. Leach, of Walterboro; her daughter, Suzanne M. Davenport and son-in-law, Bob Davenport of Sandy Hook, Connecticut; and four grandchildren, Robert Gregory and Tyler William Davenport and Christina Marie and Brandon Gene Tullock-Baker. There are two brothers, Robert Bradley of Anaheim, California and Timothy W. Bradley of Canton, Connecticut; as well as several cousins in Connecticut.
She is predeceased in death by her parents, a brother, Charles R. Bradley and her son, William LeRoy Tullock-Baker.
Mrs. Leach was a military spouse during the Vietnam War era and after, who moved to Isle of Palms, SC in 1971 to be close to the Charleston Naval Base. She retired after many years doing various jobs such as keypunch operator, assistant to real estate agent, as well as a librarian for the Charleston County Public library. She then pursued her interests as a modern renaissance woman. Among other interests, she loved sewing, walking on the beach and gardening. She was a veracious reader who loved spending time at the Poe, Edisto and Colleton County libraries and the people she became friends with there through the years and treasured her time crafting quilts with her beloved friends at the Walterboro Project Linus Chapter. Connie loved tracing her family genealogy and history both online and through countless hours on the back roads of Connecticut with her daughter.
Connie provided comfort and touched thousands of lives through her donations and gifts of her handmade quilts to the Veterans Home, the Project Linus group, the Winyah Community Hospice Care and various other organizations throughout the Charleston area and to family and friends.
There will be a service for Mrs. Leach at Center Cemetery, Colebrook, Connecticut at a later date.
