Colonel Roger Elwyn Templin, United States Air Force (Ret.), age 92, of Walterboro, died Tuesday evening, February 25, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.



Funeral services will be held at a later date privately.



Colonel Templin was born March 9, 1916, in Hibbard Township, Kansas, and was a son of the late Albert Euclid Templin and the late Nellie Upper Templin. Colonel Templin completed an extensive career in the Military. He served his country in the United States Air Force where he received the distinguished rank of Colonel. He was a bomber Pilot in the European Theater during World War II and had served from England to Germany; and was also associated with the Military Air Transport. He was the Base Operations Officer at the Charleston Air Force Base for ten years prior to his retirement. After his retirement from the military; he was a Management Consultant for the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island and then founded and was the Director of the Dorchester Vocational School. He was of the Protestant faith and was also a member of the United States Air Force Association. Remembered best for his strong work ethic, he has left many cherished memories for those he loved. In his earlier years, he possessed a great love for photography and had a great passion for music of all styles. An excellent cook and lover of good cuisine, he will be remembered for sharing his culinary secrets and art with others. He also had a great love of traveling.



The last surviving of seven children, he is survived by: two sons, Corey Randal Templin of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Douglas Ryan Templin of Tampa, Florida; a granddaughter, Angela of London, England; a longtime friend and companion, Betty Hart of Walterboro; and a special niece and caregiver, Jan Johnston and her husband Kenneth of Walterboro. He is also survived by one whom he held very close to his heart, his standard poodle, Molly. He was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Marie Templin Norris, and pet, Hounddog the poodle.
