QMC Clyde Johnson, United States Navy (Ret.), affectionaly known by many as “Totsy”, age 82, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2015, at his home on Phillips Road in Walterboro. He was the loving husband of fifty-two years to the late Mrs. June Orr Johnson at the time of her death in 2012.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, October 28, 2015, from Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend Eric Bjork officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will follow in the churchyard.
Born January 27, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Fletcher Lee Johnson and the late Annie Mae Driggers Johnson. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy where he retired in 1971 after 20 years of service. During his tenure in the military, he served during the Cuban Missle Crisis and saw action in the Vietnam Conflict and the Korean Era. He also retired from the United States Postal Service having worked for the Walterboro Post Office in many capacties. He was a longtime member of Bedon Baptist Church where he formerly served on the Deacon Board as well as served in many aspects of the church’s work. He will always be remembered for the love he possessed for his family, always centering his life around them. He was a Master Mason, holding his membership at Bethelhem Masonic Lodge, No. 338 in Round O.
Surviving are: three children, Marty Johnson and his wife Karin of New York, Teri Lynn Fulton of Walterboro, and Phillip Johnson of Walterboro; and a brother, James Alton Johnson and his wife Betty of Walterboro. There are three grandchildren, Kerry Johnson and his wife Brittany of Walterboro and Sophie Johnson and Jack Johnson both of New York; and two great grandchildren, Bailey and Carter Johnson. He is also surivived by three sisters-in-law, Patty Smith and her husband Leon of Newberry, Sherry Peterson and her husband Keith of Columbia, and Jane Crutchfield and her husband Billy of Mashawville; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Johnson and Wilbur Johnson.
