Clemson C. Hiers

Mr. Clemson Calhoun Hiers, 90, of See See Road, Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday morning, May 14, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Saturday morning, May 17, 2014, from Great Swamp Baptist Church, 3396 Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend Jack Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born November 5, 1923, a native of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Joseph Earl Hiers and the late Zada Iva Trowell Hiers. A life dedicated to farming, Clemson will be remembered as a hardworking man who spent his life and his career farming. He also had worked for the Upchurch Lumber Mill in Walterboro. He was the oldest member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Walterboro where he was currently serving as a church trustee and was a former Sunday School Director. He also possessed an avid love for fishing and hunting and was a member of the Ontranto Hunting Club.

Surviving are: a sister-in-law, Mrs. Valerie Gibson Hiers of Walterboro; and two beloved nephews who "Clem" admired as sons, Glen Hiers and his wife Rose and Dennis Hiers all of Walterboro. There are four great nieces, Stacy Ellis and her husband Jesse, Megan Hiers, Jennifer Hiers, and Kristina Hiers; two nephews, Jeremy Hiers and Josh Hiers; as well as a great great niece, Lillan; and two great great nephews, Chase and Jason. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Hiers and Percy Hiers; a sister, Marie Hiers Herndon; and a great nephew, Jonathan Hiers.
