Claudia Long

Heaven gained a kind and gentle soul when Claudia Jeannine Long embraced the Holy Spirit on March 17, 2025.  Claudia, age 65, of Varnville, South Carolina, passed away at her home after a brief illness.

Claudia was born January 29, 1960, in Columbia, South Carolina.  She moved to Varnville shortly thereafter, and attended the Hampton School System, where she was active in the Red Devil Band from middle school until graduation.  After graduating from Wade Hampton in 1978, she went on to earn her Associate’s Degree from USC-Salkehatchie.  Claudia worked for many years as a Respiratory Technician at Allendale County Hospital and enjoyed working with the public in and taking care of her patients.

Claudia was a faithful and loving wife to her husband, Mark Long.  They shared over thirty-eight years of marriage together.  Claudia and Mark shared four children: their son, Daniel Holbrook Long, and also Marty Long (Patty), Matthew Austin Long (Christina), and Ashley Long Kowalewski (Scott).   Grandchildren include Chloe, Hance, Rowe McKayla, Bella, Connor, Marley Jane, Christopher Haze, Timothy, Lucy and Kolsen.  Claudia was predeceased by her parents, William and Jeannine Cannington.

In addition to her spouse and children, she is survived by her sisters, Lynn Bowers and Kaye (Nathan) Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2 o’clock, Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2025, at Varnville Cemetery.
