Claude H. Rentz

April 22, 1921 - December 26, 2011

Mr. Claude Harper Rentz, 90, of 7257 Howells Mill Road, Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Monday, December 26, 2011 at Providence Hospital in Columbia. He was the husband of the late Alberta Strickland Rentz, to whom he was married for 59 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, Friday, December 30, 2011 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Rentz Family Cemetery, 7257 Howells Mill Road, Ehrhardt.

Mr. Rentz was born April 22, 1921 in Bamberg County and was a son of the late Joseph Benjamin Rentz and Lillie Mae Fender Rentz. After his mother's passing at a young age, he was raised by his sister, the late Rachel Rentz Morris. He attended Ehrhardt School, was a farmer, member of Oak Grove Hunting Club, member of the Quarter Horse Association and worked for many years at Herndon's StockYard. He loved his family and friends. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. His lifetime friend and buddy was Barbot McMillan and his friend Joe Williams was like his second son.

Surviving are: his six daughters, Claudia (Olin) Chassereau of Lexington, Janice (Rhomie) Futch of Manning, Marilyn Doremus of Ehrhardt, Wanda Martin of Ehrhardt, Debra (Larry) Russell of Bamberg, and Kendra (Glenn) Gustafson of Ehrhardt; one son, Gregg (Belinda) Rentz of Ehrhardt; brother-in-law, Carlisle Strickland of Charleston; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton Rentz and Guilds Rentz; one step brother, Albert Royal; and two sisters, Rachel Morris and Nell Hughes.
