Christopher Vanhoy

December 14, 1974 — December 2, 2024

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mr. Christopher Michael Vanhoy, Sr., 49, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday afternoon, December 2, 2024, at his residence.

Born December 14, 1974, in Surry County, North Carolina, he was a son of Betty Brandon Vanhoy and the late Michael Glenn Vanhoy.  Chris served as a fireman for the City of Charleston Fire Department where he retired as Deputy Chief of Operations after 25 years.  Along with serving as Deputy Chief, Chris was Assistant Chief of Operations, Assistant Chief of Technical Services, and was a member of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team.  He accomplished many things in his years of service for the fire department.  He loved what he did and the men he served with.  However, if he were here right now, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishments were his children.  He loved those two more than anything.

Chris received his Associate’s degree in Fire Science and his Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration, both from Columbia Southern University.  He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast since he was a young boy.

Surviving are: his mother, Betty Vanhoy of Yadkinville, North Carolina; children, Christopher Michael Vanhoy, Jr. of Goose Creek and Emma Ruth Vanhoy of Goose Creek; his children’s mother, Alicia Ruth Zorn of Goose Creek; and his dear friend and companion, Jenny Horton of Walterboro. ARRANGEMENTS BY: THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOMES, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro, 843.538.5408.
